Behavioral Health Collaborative Solutions
About BHCS
Behavioral Health Collaborative Solutions (BHCS) is a collaboration of four nationally experienced behavioral health consulting firms. BHCS member consultants have worked closely together on behavioral health engagements over the past 16 years and share consistent values, approach and high standards of service and product output.

With a combined client list of over 900 engagements, BHCS member firms are unique in their depth of technical experience and in their appreciation of the challenges faced by all facets of the system serving behavioral health consumers and their families.  We believe there are three features of BHCS which best prepare us to meet our clients' needs:

  • Our Values
  • Our Experience with Providers and State/County/Local Jurisdictions
  • Our Commitment to Value-Driven, Practical Solutions

Our Values

  • We believe that only through having a stable, efficient and effective provider network can consumers and families receive the quality of services and supports necessary to support their recovery.
  • We are committed to supporting a definitive mental health authority that is capable of providing leadership regarding mental health policy, obtaining and coordinating resources, and developing and managing operational competencies.  We believe that the presence of a strong mental health authority is central to the creation and maintenance of a stable, efficient and effective behavioral health system that is most likely to support the successful recovery of consumers.
  • We believe in a collaborative approach to systems change and transformation.  Building understanding of complex issues, finding collaborative solutions and ultimately garnering the support of key constituencies increases the likelihood of workable outcomes and preservation of system funding and supports.
Our Experience with Behavioral Health Providers

BHCS member consultants have a rich history of extensive work with community-based behavioral health providers, private providers and hospital-based systems of care, having provided training and/or technical assistance in all 50 states to more than 900 clients. BHCS member consultants are authors or contributors to more than 30 books, manuals and monographs on provider operational and system transition issues.

Our consulting with providers has primarily focused on operational responses to changes in funding environments and methodologies, with an emphasis on honoring and preserving organizational values and quality of care.

Our Experience with and State, Regional and Local Authorities

BHCS member consultants have provided consultation services to more than 30 authorities (state/regional/local jurisdictions) and six national public-sector managed care entities.  Services have focused nearly exclusively on system transformation issues and have included readiness reviews for operational areas, technical training on key tasks (utilization management, crisis, central access, prior authorization, claims, service definitions, needs assessment, network development and management), and operational supports during start up.

Our Commitment to Value-Driven, Practical Solutions

BHCS member consultants are well-known for our practical, 'real-world' solutions to the day to day challenges of surviving in today's behavioral healthcare environment.  Because of the breadth of our operational experience, BHCS consultants can not only tell a client what they need to do, but can offer examples of similar situations, work product proven to be successful, and when desired, link the client to someone who has successfully accomplished similar objectives.  We pride ourselves on good 'bang for the buck' production of outcomes for our clients, including timely and professional products whether they be plans, reports, or presentations.
